Staff Bio

With nearly 20 years of clinical and leadership experience, Dr. Kathlyn T. McGlynn, DNP,  brings an incredible understanding of the hospital setting to Weisser Law. Her time in high-risk labor and delivery environments, neonatal care, and surgical settings gives McGlynn a deep understanding of the standard of care expected of medical staff.

That knowledge of how care is supposed to be handled allows McGlynn to spot subtle and obvious mistakes made by healthcare staff in medical environments throughout Florida.

“With nearly 20 years of nursing experience in a hospital setting, I know what to look for when something doesn’t seem right,” McGlynn said.

McGlynn joined Weisser Law after spending nearly 17 years combined at Martin Memorial Health System, which was later acquired by the Cleveland Clinic. Before that, Dr. McGlynn worked for St. Mary’s Medical Center.

During her time at the Martin Memorial Health System and the Cleveland Clinic, McGlynn served as a nurse manager overseeing a staff of more than 50 people. Not only was she responsible for patient care, but she also helped shape what that care looked like at a systemic level.

That included leading initiatives focused on patient safety, staff development, and quality of care. McGlynn also served as a liaison between the frontline care providers, physicians, and hospital administration. In that role, McGlynn was directly involved in evaluating adverse events in the hospital.

That meant identifying breakdowns in care, how they happened, and who was responsible for the mistake.

That also meant witnessing firsthand the lengths to which healthcare providers across Florida go to protect themselves rather than their patients. Rather than own up to an error, mistakes were ignored or covered up.

Wanting to be part of the solution rather than making the problem worse, Dr. McGlynn moved to the legal side, where she can hold healthcare providers accountable. Dr. McGlynn still holds patients’ hands, too, by helping them navigate the legal system when they’ve been placed in a horrible situation by negligent healthcare professionals.

Now that she’s with Weisser Law, Dr. McGlynn continues to identify mistakes in the healthcare system, but does so on behalf of our clients. As part of her duties as a Legal Nurse Consultant, Dr. McGlynn conducts page-by-page analysis of clients’ medical records — sometimes tens of thousands of pages — to determine what happened in the case. By drawing on her experience and understanding of hospital policies and regulatory requirements, McGlynn identifies inconsistencies in care, including missed warning signs, lapses, and other errors by healthcare staff.

Dr. McGlynn works closely with our attorneys to build the strongest, medically verifiable case possible for our clients.

“The attorneys bring the legal expertise, and I bring the medical perspective—it’s a collaborative process that helps us fully understand what happened,” McGlynn explained.

With cases evaluated from both legal and clinical perspectives, Weisser Law can advocate more effectively, making McGlynn an instrumental part of the team. Along with evaluating records, McGlynn assesses whether a potential client has a case, contacts experts to build cases, and creates in-depth summaries of cases for Weisser Law’s attorneys.

“When we identify true negligence, it honestly breaks my heart. You see the pain and frustration families go through,” McGlynn said. “When we’re done reviewing the records, we give them answers, and that matters to our clients.”
